I imagine to some readers the title sounds as though this piece is a blast from the past, but if it were, I’d probably have called it a rave from the grave 🙂  This is a new watercolour, inspired by my fortnightly visits to Walton & Frinton Yacht Club to join in with the regular watercolour workshops. This scene is an area of water I see from the classroom window. I often watch the yachts bobbing about when the tide’s in. Many years ago I naively asked why the boats didn’t float away and was told they were on swinging moorings. At the time I neither knew what a mooring was nor where it swung to or from, so was left still none the wiser. Far more familiar with the world of the seafarer nowadays, I am wise to the phrase and felt it was a perfect title for this piece of work.
