Just a bit of fun rendered at a workshop with Lesley Lord, my watercolour mentor. Lesley had set the scene, offering students an image to work from that contained a haggered tree with a few gnarled branches in the foreground and a little cottage in the distance with an owl taking its prey home. The objective was to create a moody Hallowe’en painting with the use of Paynes grey in the main, practising the technique of drawing trees that we’d explored a fortnight earlier. I wanted to make the picture my own so replaced the cottage with a more gothic style house and a much fuller tree with more threatening branches. The owl in my painting has not yet arrived because night has not yet fallen … but who knows what may appear before the morning arrives?
