Inspired by friends, fellow local artists, experimenting with monotonal paintings, I followed suit. Hubby had proudly presented to me with a little bunch of daffs earlier in the day, a very unusual gesture, so I’d positioned them centre stage on the hearth in the main room. Coincidentally, I’d just finished some thorough house cleaning, also an unusal occurrence, and the black hearth was shining. As I looked down upon the simple sweet yellow bouquet and the reflection on the hearth, I was struck with the idea. That was it! This simple bunch of flowers was a perfect subject for the simplicity of a monotone painting.
