This painting is of the Essex coastline close to where I live. I walk along this beach regularly and see the little waves gently roll over to meet the rocks, part of the sea defence built to protect the land. We rarely see surfing waves and those that visit do not compare with the Atlantic breakers seen on the Cornish coast. No, the weather has to be very fierce for us to enjoy a rough sea. This relaxing scene that I have called ‘Solace’ is typical of a day at Frinton on Sea. When the tide is out you’ll see a huge expanse of sand for a while until the sea comes in to remind the walkers with their dogs and the sunbathers who the beach really belongs to. Off she goes again, out for the day, but always returns home to cover the sands and say goodnight.
