This work began as an early dabble in the field of pastels. I started the picture at a workshop with Trevor Osborne. Following instructions given earlier in the day, my task in the afternoon was to take a stimulus image and explore the techniques shown. That afternoon I managed little more than the soft outline of the eyes and head of the kitten. I was very much inspired by the image I’d created though and some months later returned to the work to finish it. I strengthened my original daubs and developed the face. Confident with the process, I continued to give the kitten his body and little paws. Isn’t he cute!
